Welding tools aren’t only for the welding process. No matter how careful a welder you are, spattering is a natural welding occurrence that you need to clean up afterwards. There are special tools used to clean up after welding. For example, chipping hammers are often used by welders to remove heavy slag from stick welds. Here are some of the steps to follow when cleaning up after welding.
- Clean the slag off the object you welded, using one of our Lenco chipping hammers. If you’re having a difficult time removing the slag from your weld you may need to practice your welding technique.
- If there are small amounts of splatter on your weld, use a file to sand them away.
- Use a brush to wipe the chipped off pieces of slag into a garbage can. Never do this with your hands because the pieces are sharp and you can get hurt.
- The last step to cleaning up after welding is putting everything away. Never leave dangerous welding tools and equipment out in the open.
